Ottilie Taylor

LONDON-BASED ABSTRACT ARTIST

Ottilie Taylor is a London-based artist, photographer and interior designer. Her abstract paintings take inspiration from her love of minimalist Scandinavian design, Japanese Wabi-sabi ideology, Brutalist architecture and street art. She strives to remain authentic in her expression, using art as a form of meditative flow and as a process for self-discovery.

‘SERIE NOIRE EN BROCHETTE’

‘Serie noire en brochette’ is an evocative collection exploring the depths of darkness and intuition. Utilising predominantly black paint, and a wooden stick serving as the artist’s primary tool, the collection invites viewers into a world where thought gives way to instinct, resulting in intense compositions that embody the raw essence of creativity.

The theme of the collection alternates between states of profound pain, fearless determination and crushing uncertainty. The focus is the process rather than the result, and the purpose is emotional expression in the purest sense, allowing viewers to intimately experience the artist’s transient states of mind.

’BEING SEEN’ COLLECTION

The collection explores the complexity of wanting to be seen and wanting to hide at the same time. Of being too scared to be vulnerable, to be judged, to be found unlovable, and therefore not fully taking the risk, but showing up in the world with very intentional protections placed over the authentic expression. There’s a certain duality to the pieces; a deeply sensitive yet bold bearing. “Here, have a look at these song lyrics that explain how I feel in my core. I’ve written the words backwards, smudged the ink and scribbled over the page with black paint. If you really want to know what the words say, if you really want to know who I am and how I feel, you’ll have to look beyond the walls I’d put up.”
